Wine Country Insider’s Guide to Date Night {Sonoma}

Welcome, fellow tired moms and dads. You may be wanting to move your relationship back to the top of the priority list, or you may be looking for new date ideas to refresh your stale dating patterns. Well look no further! Our team came up with their favorite “date” restaurants, wineries, and things to do. And because Sonoma County is the same size as Rhode Island (true story) with over 400 wineries, we have included OVER 100 recommendations!

How to Use This Guide:

We listed the date ideas by region (North, South, East, West and Central), so you can choose dates outside of your region, or keep it simple by staying close to home. Below the main region label, you will find an entire day-to-night date planned for you, by region, with our recommendations (you are welcome). Below that you will find a list of activities, wineries and restaurants in that same region (for those of you who want to plan it on your own!). If you get out there and try one of these date ideas, be sure to tag us on insta @sonomamomsblog !

Insider’s Recommendations for Northern Sonoma (Windsor to Geyserville)

Celebrate Great Weather, Food & Wine

Start off for breakfast at Cousteaux French Bakery, and a leisurely stroll of all the great downtown shops. Before you leave downtown HB, check out Williamson Wines, and grab a sweet treat at Moustache Baked Goods (to-go!). Pick up your lunch at Dry Creek General Store, and head over for a gorgeous picnic on the river at Truett-Hurst. Then head north for an education in wine at Zichichi (pair your saved dessert from Moustache on the deck with some of their Cabernet- you can thank us later). Head in to Geyserville for a tasting at Ramazotti and Mercury, then finish your evening at Catelli’s in Geyserville (ask for patio seating, and make sure to order the Burrata platter).

Insider’s Recommendations for Southern Sonoma (Rohnert Park to Petaluma)

Man and Dog-Friendly Date in Petaluma

In contrast to much of Sonoma County, where Petaluma lacks in wine, it makes up for with delightful delightful downtown full of can’t-miss restaurants and gorgeous countryside. (Everything with an asterisk is dog-friendly!) Start your day with a hike in Helen Putnam Regional Park*, or a tour of one of the many fantastic local farms. Head into town for lunch on the river at Brewsters, and after a stroll of the gorgeous downtown, head over to one of our favorite breweries, Lagunitas*. Catch a show at the Mystic, then grab some late night grub at the fantastic Speakeasy (serving food past midnight!)

Enjoy a Past, Present, Future Weekend in Sonoma

Start your day with breakfast at El Dorado Kitchen and head on over to the Mission, or General Vallejo’s house for a little history on the original state capital, Sonoma. Grab delicious cheese and sandwiches at the Sonoma Cheese Factory and picnic in the quaint Sonoma Plaza, like any true Sonoman. (Or, run out for a tour of Sunset Demonstration Gardens at Cornerstone, and grab lunch at the Fremont Diner.) Then pack up and head over to B.R. Cohn for some fantastic Olive Oil. Finish your day with a tasting at our favorite Glen Ellen winery, Eric Ross. End your evening there, at Glen Ellen Star (we recommend ridiculous brussels sprouts with brown sugar bacon marmalade).

Wilderness Adventure in West County

Make sure to pack the selfie-stick for the relentless beauty in west county! Start out with an early morning hike inside Armstrong Redwoods, then head on over to Backyard for brunch (we recommend trying the Fried Chicken & Waffles, and the Bucket o’ Donuts). Make your way south to Iron Horse (for champagne and views- now appointment only!) and Merry Edwards, renowned for their Pinot. End your day with hike, watching the sun sink into the ocean, along at Bodega Dunes, and dinner at Fishetarian. The great thing about west county? You can wear your hiking outfit everywhere.
